OUR PHILOSOPHY

[line] Lifelong learning without boundaries has been the core of DOU’s philosophy. We believe in providing opportunities to pursue education without interrupting our normal lives. The ultimate goal of DOU is to shape a complete and perfect human being. The term ‘perfect’ refers to a human whose life is full of merits, who can live contentedly without causing problems to others and society – a person who finally can find true happiness, and is able to help and give proper advice to others.

The educational objectives are that students should develop a thorough understanding of Dhamma (Buddhist principles and doctrine), theoretically and practically, and gain experience in practicing Dhamma. Students should display a deep understanding about the truth of life and the world around them, firmly grasp the ultimate goal of human existence, know how to train themselves using Buddhist methods to be a person of virtuous attributes, and bring peace into their lives and those surrounding them.

With its global reach, DOU offers opportunities to everyone around the world to experience the joy of Dhamma, and receive a world-class education without leaving home.The knowledge gained is beneficial to all humankind, regardless of sex, age, race, or religion.

DOU Written Goals Study

[line] 1. To provide students with a complete knowledge of Dhamma as given by the Lord Buddha, the Scriptures [Pariyatti], practice [Paṭipatti] and attainment [Paṭivedha].

2. To supply each student with the knowledge, comprehension and capability of how to be a Kalyāṇamitta (good Buddhist friend) to himself/herself, his/her family, society and the world.
3. To develop students as leaders and role models of morality for society by generating benevolence and world peace.
